Spring is in the air in New York City, and with it comes a wealth of events and activities that truly highlight all that makes it the greatest city on Earth. We spoke with Keoni Boyer, Chef Concierge at The Knickerbocker, and asked him to recommend some of the best ways to take advantage of spring in NYC. From flowers to sports cars (and plenty in between), he provided us with some amazing suggestions.
The New York Botanical Garden
In what may come as a surprise to many visitors, New York City is a nature fan’s paradise. From beautiful parks and much more, the city comes alive in springtime. One of the best stops to witness mother nature’s reawakening is the New York Botanical Garden. According to Keoni, the gardens are where “lovers of flowers gather to see fantastic displays of the harbingers of spring.” He also adds that “The Botanical Gardens are currently featuring their annual Orchid show.”
New York International Auto Show (April 3-12)
Keoni recommends that visitors “discover new ways to tool around in the country’s largest auto show”, which runs through April 12th at the Javits Center in Manhattan. The New York International Auto Show features sneak peeks at the newest models, celebrity guests and much more. Find your new favorite ride and imagine cruising down the West Side Highway with the top down.
High Line and the Reopening of the Whitney Museum
Those looking for a more active springtime adventure should definitely check out The High Line and The Whitney Museum. Says Keoni: “Set to open May 1st in a brand new building designed by Renzo Piano, the Whitney Museum is an institution to American Art. The High Line walkway offers beautiful views of Manhattan architecture and ends at the Whitney.”
Cruising on the River
“Warmer weather always makes me want to get out on the water.” says Keoni. “I love both the sunset and brunch sailboat cruises offered by Classic Harbor Lines. They serve curated food and drinks from the Tri-State area.” We can’t argue with a day (or evening) on the water, especially if it includes local eats and drinks!
Smorgasburg
Speaking of local eats and drinks, Keoni has this to say about Smorgasburg, Brooklyn’s largest gathering of purveyors large and small: “Eat outdoors! Smorgasburg is back and the best reason to visit Brooklyn. The huge gathering of food vendors offering everything from BBQ to doughnuts to Ramen burgers opens April 4th to satisfy those carnal cravings.”
Golf in NYC
“The newest world class golf course is right here in NYC. Brought to you by Donald Trump, The Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point is a Jack Nicklaus designed golf course located in the Bronx with incredible views of the Manhattan skyline.” says Keoni. Even if you aren’t a golfer, you may want to stop by just to enjoy the views.
