Soho Shopping Guide: Boutiques To Love In New York

In the early twentieth century, SoHo was a locale for factories and mechanic shops. Today, it’s the epicenter of global design, a fashion hound’s playground. From Bloomingdales to designer houses like Prada, there is much ground to cover in this neighborhood between Houston and Canal Streets. (You’ll find a lot of our go-to SoHo boutiques on Broome Street and Greene Street!) And while the big name brands may draw shoppers, it’s the smaller boutiques that have our hearts. Read on for our list of the best of the curated boutiques, in no particular order, and don’t forget to look into the neighborhood’s fine catalogue of vintage and consignment shops. Here’s where to shop in SoHo.

Blue In Green

A men’s shop on Greene for laid-back streetwear from Japan and California, Blue in Green is a must-stop for stylish gents. 8 Greene St.; 212-680-0555

Flying Solo

Designers’ cooperative Flying Solo brings local names like GiGi and Coco & Breezy to West Broadway. You’ll probably be helped by the actual designers, too, since they regularly man the shop. 419 Broome St.; 646-982-1133 ext. 1

IF

One of the first fashion boutiques to open in a then not-so-chic SoHo in 1978, IF won the hearts of artists like Warhol and Basquiat. Here you’ll find a mix of labels from Europe and Japan including Yamamoto, Des Garcons and Grundhal designs hr. 94 Grand Street; 212-334-4964

The Laundress

The Laundress is a surprisingly elevated brand designed by two fashion insiders who left their careers at Ralph Lauren and Chanel to develop eco-friendly and non-toxic detergents and fabric cleaners. You’ll find a number of The Laundress stockists sprinkled throughout Manhattan but the SoHo flagship store is definitely worth a special stop. 199 Prince St.; 212-564-6788
