High on the 14th floor, boasting an enviable corner view of 42nd Street and Broadway, the serene yet whimsical Parrish Suite draws its inspiration from a renowned American painter with a decidedly New York story. The celebrated fairytale-like illustrations of Maxfield Parrish so enchanted hotel founder John Jacob Astor IV that he commissioned the artist to do a 30×8 foot mural of Old King Cole as the centerpiece for The Knickerbocker’s barroom, aka the “42nd Street Country Club.” It was here that the massive triptych would hang for nearly two decades, becoming intimately identified with The Knickerbocker and a well-known symbol of Manhattan itself. Today, the iconic mural hangs in another Astor hotel, the St. Regis, making it part of New York history for more than 100 years.
To add to the drama of the suite’s corner views, guests will find crystal glassware from Waterford’s Lismore Black collection. The Waterford Lismore Black collection features the iconic Lismore pattern in both clear and rich black crystal, creating a glamorous take on this universally-loved classic. Artfully playing off the inspiration of Parrish’s colorful work, the striking contrast of the Lismore Black collection accentuates the intricate deep cuts and stunning silhouette while allowing the color of your wine, brandy, or champagne peek through.
