Celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month at The Knick
April is Jazz Appreciation Month, and what better place to celebrate than at the Knickerbocker, which saw the advent of the Jazz Age in the 1920s. Charlie Palmer at the Knick is honoring the hotel’s history with live jazz every Monday through Thursday from April 4 through the 25th. Here’s the lineup.
Mondays: Jazz Saxophone featuring Alex Hoffman
Called “a tenor saxophonist to watch out for” by the Jazztimes, Alex Hoffman has held residencies at Smalls Jazz Club and Fat Cat Jazz Club, and has performed at the Village Vanguard and the Blue Note. The Washington, D.C. native also appeared on-screen in the movie Revolutionary Road with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as well as the HBO series Boardwalk Empire.
Tuesdays: Blues featuring Luca Santaniello, Jerry Weldon and Yaacov Mayman
Hear the blues every Tuesday evening in April. Drummer and composer Luca Santaniello will perform on April 5 and 12, while Jerry Weldon—a veteran of the New York jazz scene who has played with Harry Connick Jr.’s Big Band—will be showcased on April 19. On April 26, Yaacov Mayman, a Russian-Israeli jazz saxophonist, will play songs from his debut album, Watercolors.
Wednesdays: Rhapsody featuring Marcus Miller and Andromeda Turre
Marcus Miller, who has been featured on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert and has shared the stage with artists like Calvin Harris, will perform during the first week of the month. Singer and songwriter Andromeda Turre, who headlines the Jazz Sessions at The Wayfarer Lounge, closes out the month.
Thursdays: Gypsy Jazz featuring Koran Agan
New York-based guitarist Koran Agan has been touring and recording five nights a week for the past decade. Heavily influenced by Django Reinhardt, his jazz quartet regularly performs in New York City’s best clubs.
